About Liv

My artistic process is a revival of childlike ecstasy and immersion into illustrative escapes from reality. My work is inspired by the works of Maurice Sendak and Oliver Jeffers.
Storytelling is fundamental to my artistic process. I would love to tell you a story, but the personal interpretations that you fill the narrative gaps with are just as critical to the story as my storytelling. This storytelling is not always a literal visual representation. The symbolic imagery in my gouache illustrations capture this best, but it’s evident in each of my works. Gouache paint provides me with an ease to color mixing that showcases my passion for individualized psychological perceptions of color in works of art. Photography provides me with an ease of experimentation and process-oriented work. Color and pattern are consistent throughout my work. Along with any other illustrative element, color and pattern enhance any narrative evident in my work. The narrative-like associations attached to colors that are taught to people as children influence audiences’ personal interpretations of my work.  I approach color with the relativity of its cultural, psychological, and linguistic interpretations in mind.
My approach to artmaking is interdisciplinary in nature. My studies in psychology reveal themselves in every work that I create. I am extremely attentive to how every work will be perceived from a psychological perspective and how that becomes an important component of the work itself. My work bridges interdisciplinary boundaries in the hopes of showcasing how complex every facet of the human condition is in actuality.
